Illustrator Robert Nippoldt and author Boris Pofalla have published a fascinating book about Berlin's golden era, the Roaring Twenties. It reflects the interest now taken in the art scene of the Weimar Republic.
"Babylon Berlin" is the most expensive TV series to have ever been filmed in Germany. Tom Tykwer's adaptation of a detective novel series portrays Berlin in the 1920s — a vibrant period before the Nazis came to power.
Germany's varieté show culture blossomed during the 1920s – but was soon shut down by the Nazi regime a decade later. A commemorative plaque has now been laid at the site of one of its best known venues, the Scala.
Located in the heart of historic West Berlin, the Art Deco Kurfuerstendamm Theater and Comedy building will soon be demolished. The last performance in the original building to take place at the end of May.
