Battle of the Sexes Takes to the Soccer Field

Just before the start of the 2006 Germany soccer World Cup, film maker Ute Wieland has raised the stakes -- and played on all the stereotypes in the book -- in the battle fight of boys against girls in his movie FC Venus, which premiers in Hamburg on Thursday.

If the girls win on the field, the men have to rip up their season tickets for good, and if the boys win the women have to stop complaining about losing their husbands to a sport each weekend.

An enthusiastic amateur player and likely method actor Florian Lukas said there is plenty of reality behind the film's stereotypes.

"I don't want to watch soccer with women because they usually don't understand any of it," he said in an interview. "Two years ago during the European Championships I asked my whole family to spend the evening somewhere else so I could watch a game with all my friends -- that was a great night.

"But we'll see what happens during the World Cup," he said. "I don't know what I'll be doing yet."
