Asylum Applications Increase in October

In October, some 2,898 refugees applied for political asylum in Germany, 4.7 percent more than in September. The total number of new applicants between January and October in 2004 dropped by 30.3 percent in comparison to the same period last year, the German Interior Ministry said on Friday. This year, the greatest number of asylum-seekers came from Turkey (3,486), Serbia and Montenegro (3,226) and Russia (2,236).
