Police have arrested the controversial founder of WikiLeaks, known for publishing classified government documents. The US has unsealed charges against Julian Assange, paving the way for his extradition to stand trial.
Ecuador's President Lenin Moreno claims Wikileaks founder Julia Assange was spying from the Ecuadorian embassy in London. Two German lawmakers and a Spanish MEP have called on their countries to grant Assange asylum.
The ruling complicates the process for Swedish prosecutors to request the WikiLeaks founder's extradition. Assange's lawyer has called it a "big victory" as his client tries to clear his name over rape accusations.
WikiLeaks said its founder will be expelled from Ecuador's London embassy within "hours to days." The non-profit said the INA papers scandal, which has implicated Ecuador's president, was the pretext for the expulsion.
