Angela Merkel visits flood zone in East Germany

Michael BärMay 29, 2010

Poland is struggling with the aftermath of two weeks of flooding which left 18 people dead. The government has promised swift assistance worth 500 million Euros. Officials say the floodwaters are receding in most areas now, but many people are still unable to return to their homes. Meanwhile the flood has also passed its peak on the German side of the Oder river. Here water levels are expected to remain high for several more days, but so far the dikes are holding.
