Two years ago G8 leaders promised universal access to treatment and preventative care -- two years on there has been very little action. We are calling for a long-term funding plan so we don't have to go begging, bowl in hand, at every annual meeting. Universal access by 2015 is a goal that deserves a budget.

I think the credibility and legitimacy of G8 is in question. It's an ongoing debate. They have invited other countries to join them, which is a sign of the times. The G8 has been more aware of its lack of credibility, but also aware of protests and therefore has tended to hide itself away. Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Action Aid last year, which I think was a recognition that civil society is important.

The G8 can lead by example. Unfortunately, so far it has tended to make cost free promises.
