Since Germany's parliamentary elections, SPD chairman Sigmar Gabriel has been on top form. Under his leadership, the SPD is aiming to use the coalition talks with Angela Merkel's conservatives to push through some of their own plans. But he may be reckoning without the grassroots. It's up to them to decide if the party will even enter into a coalition with the CDU in the first place.
