日本与印度签署了一份有关共同生产稀土的谅解备忘录,以减少对中国的依赖。迄今中国控制着全球绝大部份的稀土出口。根据周五签署的备忘录,日本和印度政府将支持日本丰田贸易公司与印度一家国营公司联合开采稀土项目。据日本时事通讯社报道,预计从明年春天开始,日本将每年从印度进口4.100吨的稀土,占日本稀土需求量的10%以上。稀土被广泛用于高科技产品,包括强性磁铁,电池,LED照明灯,电动汽车,风力涡轮机和导弹等。中国一直是全球稀土生产和出口大国。但是目前北京政府基于环保理由限量开采稀土,并减少出口。日本,欧盟和美国纷纷指责中国为保护本国工业需求限制出口的做法不公平。
