DR Congo elections epa03017273 Top opposition leader Etienne Tshisekedi (C) arrives for a news conference at his residence in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, 27 November 2011. The veteran politician vowed to hold a public rally, defying a government order banning political rallies after at least three people had reportedly been killed in a clash on previous day. Presidential and parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in DR Congo on 28 November 2011 amid concerns over the prospects for fair elections. Tshisekedi, a 78-year-old opposition leader and the head of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), and Vital Kamerhe, a former UDPS member, are among many others who are challenging incumbent Joseph Kabila in the country's second election since the end of a bloody civil war in 2003. Election-related violence has already broken out in parts of the country ahead of the poll. Election official has said on 27 November that there will be no delay and elections will go as planned on 28 November, despite concerns by many that it would be delayed due to the violence and logistical difficulties in the country two-thirds the size of Western Europe.
