Milione godina preživele na steni
Jelašnička i Sićevačka klisura u okolini Niša jedina su mesta na kojima zajedno žive endemske biljke Ramonda serbica i Ramonda Natalia. Te biljke stare su nekoliko miliona godina.
Jelašnička klisura mesto za retku biljku
Radovanski kamen u Jelašničkoj klisuri jedno je od dva mesta na planeti gde zajedno žive zaštićene retke vrste biljaka Ramonda serbica i Ramonda natalia. Na svim ostalim mestima gde su nađene, na prostorima centralnog Balkana i područjima Afrike, te dve biljke žive odvojeno.
Prvi put opisane u Srbiji
U Srbiji su te vrste Ramonde nađene na više mesta. Ramonda serbicu prvi je opisao Josif Pančić i to sa Rtnja sredinom 19. veka. Dao joj je ime po teritoriji na kojoj se može naći. Ramonda natalia opisana je baš u Jelašničkog klisuri kod Niša. Nju je opisao sanitetski pukovnik i lekar kralja Milana, dr Sava Petrović. Dao joj ime Ramonda natalia po kraljici Nataliji, supruzi Milana Obrenovića.
Biljke tropskog i suptropskog perioda
Ipak, te biljke stare su nekoliko miliona godina i ostaci su geološke istorije naše planete kada su kontinenti izgledali drugačije. Tada je na našim prostorima vladala tropska i suptropska klima, a biljke iz roda Ramonda specifične su i po tome što pripadaju porodici gesneriaceae, tropskoj i suptropskoj familiji. Najveći broj predstavnika te porodice živi u tropskom i suptropskom pojasu Afrike.
Žive na stenama
„Ovakve vrste biljaka se inače zovu relikti, vrste velike starosti, i uglavnom se sreću na visokim i zaklonjenim mestima gde su uspele da prežive nepovoljne periode, hladne talase koji su usledili posle tropskih. Obe vrste žive u klisurama u severno eksponiranim stranama planina gde su ušuškane u toj mikroklimi okoline“, kaže biolog, istraživač Prirodno-matematičkog fakulteta dr Miloš Popović.
Moć regeneracije
„Nalaze se u pukotinama stena gde je jako malo zemlje, ali to im je dovoljno. Imaju neverovatnu sposobnost regeneracije. Još zanimljivije je što one mogu potpuno da se osuše, tj. da pređu u stanje koje mi biolozi zovemo stanje anabioze. Dakle, biljke prespavaju nepovoljni period i kada ponovo padne kiša, kada je voda ponovo dostupna, biljke mogu potpuno da ožive“, kaže biolog Popović.
Biljke feniks
„Čak i biljke koje su herbarizovane nekoliko godina, posle tih nekoliko godina mogu da se izvuku iz herbarijuma, malo nakvase i da ožive. Zato ih zovu biljkama feniks“, objašnjava on.
Nekada jedna vrsta
Ramonda Serbica i Ramonda Natalia su veoma srodne vrste, pretpostavlja se da su se u doba tercijara razdvojile poliploidiom, što znači da se ćelijska struktura udvostručila. Tog trenutka kada su se razdvojile počele su da funkcionišu kao dve zasebne vrste, nisu više mogle da se ukrštaju.
Vešto oko vidi razlike
„Čak i danas te vrste su jako slične, vešto oko samo može da uoči da razliku u nazubljenosti listova ove vrste, kao i u dlakavosti lista. To su mali sistemski karakteri po kojima ih stručnjaci razlikuju“, priča o pojedinostima tih vrsta Miloš Popović.
Endemi Balkana
I jedna i druga vrsta pravi su endemi centralnog dela balkanskog poluostrva. Endemične su vrste su koje naseljavaju male delove područja.
Za pronalazak „zaslužan“ kralj Milan
Biolog Miloš Popović smatra da je kralj Milan Obrenović zaslužan za to što su naučnici dr Sava Petrović i Josif Pančić istraživali na ovom području, jer je i on sam voleo ovaj kraj Srbije i često boravio na području Niša, Niške banje i okoline.
