Wyprawa „Kon-Tiki”
70 lat temu Thor Heyerdahl z pięcioma towarzyszami wyruszyli tratwą w karkołomny rejs po Pacyfiku. Po trzech miesiącach na morzu dotarli do Polinezji. Podobnie jak Inkowie, czego miała dowieść ta wyprawa.
Trzy miesiące na morzu
Trasa podróży „Kon-Tiki” liczyła prawie 7 tysięcy kilometrów. Jej uczestnicy wyruszyli z Limy w Peru, aby 7 sierpnia 1947 roku, po 101 dniach na morzu, dopłynąć na wyspę Raroia w Polinezji.
Nikt nie chciał mu wierzyć
Jak zaludniono Polinezję? Zdaniem Heyerdahla, który przed II wojną prowadził prace badawcze na wyspie Fatu Hiva, Inkowie prowadzeni przez wodza Kon Tiki dotarli na tratwach znad jeziora Titicaca na wyspy Polinezji. Była to śmiała teza, której nie podzielali inni etnografowie i antropolodzy. Aby ją udowodnić Heyerdahl zaryzykował podróż tratwą przez ocean.
Dziewięć wielkich bali
Tratwę „Kon-Tiki” zbudowano z tych samych materiałów i w taki sam sposób, jak mieli to uczynić przed wiekami Inkowie. Wykonano ją z dziewięciu wielkich bali drzewa balsa, uzupełnionych innymi, naturalnymi materiałami – drewnem, włóknem kokosowym i linami z sizalu. Okazało się, że pradawna technika doskonale sprawdziła się w praktyce.
Życie jak w dżungli
Na tym zdjęciu widać załogę tratwy w chacie wykonanej z grubych prętów bambusa i mat uplecionych z tego samego materiału. Jedynym nowoczesnym wyposażeniem „Kon-Tiki" były radiostacje, gumowa dinghy, oraz racje żywnościowe otrzymane w darze od armii amerykańskiej. Heyerdahl zabrał w podróż kamerę, którą sfilmował ekspedycję. W 1951 roku otrzymał Oskara za film dokumentalny „Kon-Tiki”.
Awanturnik czy naukowiec?
Wyprawa „Kon-Tiki” przyniosła sławę jej pomysłodawcy i dowódcy. Była przedsięwzięciem niezwykle śmiałym i ryzykownym, ale wykazała, że można przepłynąć tratwą z Ameryki Południowej do Polinezji. Nie wszyscy jednak podzielają opinię Heyerdahla, że ludność Polinezji jest pochodzenia południowoamerykańskiego. Badania genetyczne wykazały, że Polinezyjczycy najprawdopodobniej pochodzą z Azji.
Kolejna wyprawa
W 1969 roku Heyerdahl spróbował dopłynąć papirusową łodzią „Ra” z Maroka na Barbados. Pierwsza próba zakończyła się niepowodzeniem. Rok później załoga „Ra II” dotarła do celu. Od tej chwili o Heyerdahlu mówi się, że jest prekursorem „archeologii eksperymentalnej”.
Tratwa w muzeum
Tratwę „Kon-Tiki” można dziś podziwiać w specjalne dla niej wybudowanym muzeum w Oslo. W jednej z sal eksponowana jest także łódź „Ra II”.
Film, który robi wrażenie
W 2012 roku Norwegowie nakręcili film fabularny o wyprawie „Kon-Tiki”. Film, który ukazuje wyprawę z 1947 roku w innym, bardziej dramatycznym, a przez to zapewne bliższym prawdy świetle, zyskał pochlebną ocenę krytyki i został dobrze przyjęty przez międzynarodową publiczność. Był nominowany do Oscara i nagrody Złotego Globu.
