The Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi has created a 360 degree panorama of Martin Luther’s life in Luthers home town of Wittenberg for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017.
The revered American civil rights leader had numerous connections to Germany and profoundly influenced the formerly divided country, both East and West. DW looks back at Martin Luther King 50 years on from his death.
That Martin Luther King Jr. bore the name of Martin Luther is the most obvious link between them. But the influence of the German reformer on the American civil rights leader was more profound than that.
Martin Luther not only reformed the Church 500 years ago, but also discovered the power of music as a songwriter and composer. His chorales gave churchgoers a voice and helped spread the ideas of the Reformation.
German leaders gathered in Wittenberg to mark 500 years since Martin Luther began the Protestant Reformation. Alongside ceremonies in the eastern city, events were held across Germany.
