Many Syrians fleeing the war in their home country have headed for Europe. But a small number took a different journey – to Russia. Even though Russia has been heavily involved in the war in Syria since the end of 2015, the plight of Syrian refugees is not a priority for Moscow. Thousands of refugees there have no official status whatsoever.
