World in Progress: Turkey sacks teachers

Dorian Jones
November 2, 2016

In Turkey, more than 12,000 teachers and academics suspended for alleged links to the Kurdish rebel group, the PKK. A third of them work in Diyarbakir, the main city in Turkey’s  predominantly Kurdish southeast. Thousands of teachers under investigation were fired from their posts. Many fear that the move will in turn secular state schools into religious schools.
