Panama's dam controversy

Protests have erupted in Panama over a highly contested dam project that threatens to put the livelihoods of a local indigenous group at risk. A German funding organization, the DEG, has been accused of fueling the conflict. The hydroelectric power station, with a 28.5-megawatt capacity, has been billed as environmentally friendly. But just how much benefit will it bring local communities?
