A total solar eclipse has completed its path from coast-to-coast across the United States. Millions of people observed the rare celestial event.
For many animals, the solar eclipse went by as a very short night-day cycle. Others, like nocturnal cave-dwellers, tend to sleep through the short-lived period of darkness.
As moon and sun aligned in a narrow band across the Southern Hemisphere, onlookers experienced a rare eclipse. Experts warned that looking directly into the sun during an eclipse could cause eye damage.
