The unusual jewelry designed by German artist Silvia Weidenbach explores the possibilities of 3D printing. She trained in traditional gold and silver smithing but prefers the possibilities modern technology has to offer.
For three years now, Germany's VOJD design studio has been using 3D printers to create high-fashion jewelry. VOJD works with a number of top fashion houses -- including Alexander McQueen.
The company Nanoscribe is producing the most accurate 3D-printers in the world to print structures 250 times finer than a human hair. Researchers use them to print tiny robots, which may one day move inside the body.
