A German schoolgirl who ran away to join the "Islamic State" terror group has been handed a six-year jail sentence in Iraq, according to media reports. Linda W. was arrested by Iraqi troops during the battle for Mosul.
The future fate of two members of the "Islamic State" group nicknamed "The Beatles" remains unclear. Amid calls for them to be extradited, the pair are currently being held by Syrian rebels who captured them.
Human Rights Watch has interviewed dozens of "jihadi" brides at detention camps in Syria who want to return home, including at least 15 Germans. Several countries called for ex-IS members to be tried in Iraq and Syria.
The Iraqi military has launched a "search and clear" operation targeting "Islamic State" pockets near the Iranian border. Iraqi forces have also attacked the "White Banners," an emerging militant group in the area.
