The neo-Nazi NPD party is protesting against a new hostel for asylum seekers. In Wandlitz, a small town 30 kilometers north of Berlin. But the Wandlitz residents are staging a counter demonstration.
The eastern German town of Ostritz has become the scene of a confrontation between neo-Nazis and their opponents. But security is high, and few incidents have so far been reported.
The German government will request that the Constitutional Court allow it to alter party funding laws and cut off money going to the neo-Nazi NPD. It follows two failed attempts by the government to get the party banned.
Around 1,000 far-right extremists are expected to descend on a small town in eastern Germany this weekend. But they face a defiant reception as Ostritz strives to make it clear that it "is no Nazi town."
