Volkswagen said on Wednesday it would recall 850,000 cars worldwide due to a motor defect. The Wolfsburg, Germany, carmaker attributed the decision to fears that cars with 1.8 liter turbo motors and V5, V6 and V8 diesel engines may have problems with ignition coils. Audis, Seats, Skodas and Volkswagens built between 2001-2003 may be effected, nearly 500,000 of which were sold in the United States. The manufacturer's guarantee will cover replacement of the faulty parts. It is the second time in two weeks that the firm has issued a recall order.
