NATO has said that three foreign soldiers were killed by a man wearing an Afghan army uniform, bringing the total of foreign soldiers killed in insider attacks to 15 during August alone.

The insider attacks, dubbed 'green-on-blue' incidents, are becoming an increasing concern for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan.

In a statement released Thursday, NATO said the three soldiers were killed in the Uruzgan province on Wednesday. About 1,500 Australian troops are deployed there.

"The incident is currently under investigation," the statement read, without naming the nationalities of the troops killed.

The Australian Department of Defense said Australian troops had been killed but it did not say how many. Prior to Wednesday's shooting, 33 Australians had died in the war.

The assaults on coalition forces from Afghans wearing military uniforms have increased in 2012. So far, there have been 30 attacks that have killed 45 troops - about 14 percent of the entire death toll from the war this year.
