The sound of shelling and gunfire has become a daily event for many children in eastern Ukraine. Thousands have already fled the area. They are being cared for in residential facilities run by the church.
Many of the children are orphans. Others have been forced to leave their parents and families behind in the Donetsk region to seek safety. But even once they’ve left, they still suffer the effects of war. The clergy members and educators who are trying to help them face a daunting task, as they look for foster families to care for the children. The residential facilities are mainly being supported through private donations.
