Amid security fears, Britain has suspended flights to and from Sharm el-Sheikh after US and UK officials said a bomb downed a Russian plane in Egypt. Russia is burying the first victims of last week’s crash, which killed all 224 people on board.
The UK has raised its terror threat level to critical, meaning an attack is expected soon. The "Islamic State" said it was linked to the blast that injured 29 people in a crowded London Underground train.
The UK, supported by France and Italy, has urged social media companies to speed up the removal of "terrorist content" from the internet. Several websites list ingredients for making bombs, for example.
For days, a wave of anonymous hoax bomb threats has been sweeping through cities across Russia. The telephone calls have led to the evacuation of tens of thousands. But the reason for the threats remains a mystery.
Pentagon and US allies in Syria claim Russian jets bombed an area occupied by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces. The Kremlin denied the allegation, saying it had no incentive to bomb the pro-Western alliance.
