Ugandan gay rights campaigner Kasha Nabagesera has won a Right Livelihood Award for her outstanding courage and commitment in a country in which gays and lesbians have to contend with prejudice, hatred and violence.
A group of gay rights activists in Uganda have taken a government agency to court for refusing to register their organization. Homosexuality is illegal in the country, and violence against sexual minorities is rife.
The United Nations human rights committee has rejected a plan to delay the appointment of an expert on LGBTI rights. A draft African resolution was amended by Latin American states to delete the request.
