A car bomb exploded in Diyarbakir, the largest city in Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast, killing eight and wounding at least 100. This comes the morning after several Kurdish politicians were arrested on allegations of terror ties.
Some 150 academics who signed a petition calling for peace in Turkey's Kurdish regions are now facing trial. Uraz Aydin, the editor of the leftwing journal Yeniyol faces additional charges of terrorist propaganda.
