The exercise is testing two scenarios - the first simulates a 9.2 magnitude earthquake near Sumatra in Indonesia, while the second simulates a tremor of 9.0 magnitude in the Makran Trench, south of Iran and Pakistan. It is the largest tsunami exercise ever staged.
