Elka Tschernokoshewa is head of the Department of Empirical Cultural Studies and Anthropology at the Sorbian Institute in Bautzen, Germany, and board member of the European Association of Cultural Researchers (ECURES). Born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria, she studied cultural studies and aesthetics in Berlin, received her doctorate in Berlin and post-doctoral degree in Sofia. She is one of the founders of the European Institute for Comparative Cultural Research (ERICarts) in Bonn and participated in the Expert Team of the ERICarts study for the EU, "SHARING DIVERSITY: National Approaches to Intercultural Dialogue in Europe". She edits the book series "Hybride Welten" (Hybrid Worlds), published by Waxmann.
