Donald Trump has recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and pledged to move the US embassy there. Does this spell the end of the fragile ceasefire between the Israelis and the Palestinians? Guests: Susan Neiman (Einsteinforum), Alan Posener (Die Welt), Akram Baker (Middle East Expert).
Susan Neiman is American and Director of the Einstein Forum in Potsdam. She says: “This is a terrible decision which will only make the peace process harder.”
Alan Posener is a commentator for the daily newspaper Die Welt. He says: "Peace begins with a recognition of reality. And to this day, most Arab states do not recognize the existence of the Jewish state. How can they then talk about peace?"
Akram Baker is a Middle East analyst of Palestinian origin. He worked as a campaign consultant for Barack Obama and he says: "Trump's act of diplomatic arson regarding Jerusalem takes his autocratic-tinged narcissism to a dangerous new level. He is willing to sacrifice the Palestinians at the altar of his ego."
