Traditional Games Go Virtual

March 10, 2014

The Turkish company Peak Games develops online versions of traditional games from the region. It’s a market niche that’s holding its own against big names like Zynga and King. Every day, about twelve million people in Turkey and in Arabic-speaking countries play their online games.

Peak Games is the largest provider of online and smartphone games in the Islamic world. The Istanbul-based company has a staff of 200. Their top seller is called Okey, which is a popular tile game in the region. The virtual versions also have integrated chat functions where male and female players can interact freely - something that’s often frowned upon in "analog” Muslim society.
