July 14, 2015

It was a one man show at the Tour de France on Tuesday, as the rider wearing the yellow jersey dominated the field in a devastating victory during the first mountain stage of the race.

On the first mountain stage of the Tour, Chris Froome dominated the 167km ride from Tarbes to La Pierre-Saint-Martin, to win the tenth stage of the race.

The British rider finished ahead of Sky teammate Richie Porte of Australia, whilst Colombian Nairo Quintana finished in third.

Froome has extended his massive 2 minutes and 52 seconds overall lead of the Tour ahead of Tejay van Garderern. A further 17 seconds ahead of Nairo Quintana.

"I'm just over the moon to have been able to finish it off," Froome said after the race.

Just as he did in 2013, Chris Froome has used the first high-mountain stage of the Tour de France to stamp his authority on the race, accelerating from hopeless rivals on the final punishing climb of Stage 10 in the Pyrenees. The win puts him firmly in the driving seat with 11 stages to go.

Froome showed a brutal acceleration with just over six kilometres left in the final ascent after his Team Sky colleagues had prevented attacks by setting a devilish pace in the first part of 15.3km climb. Stage eleven heads through a host of small towns, before hitting infamous steep climbs such as Col d'Aspin and Col du Tourmalet in a 188km ride.
