The European Parliament is set to elect a new president. Who will succeed Martin Schulz - conservative candidate Antonio Tajani, or social democrat Gianni Pitella? DW's Max Hofmann spoke to EP vice president Alexander Graf Lambsdorff.
The gesture comes as MEPs passed a resolution questioning the rule of law and press freedom in Malta. Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed by a car bomb in October after years of exposing political graft and corruption.
Brexit minister David Davis has said UK lawmakers will have the chance to vote on Britain's final exit deal from the EU. Despite the concession, Davis stressed that the UK will leave the EU "whatever the outcome."
The UK parliament has started a debate on when the two-year negotiating period for Brexit should end. Some MPs are questioning whether there should be a fixed time at all.
President Teodoro Obiang Nguema has been the country's president for 37 years. The party of Africa's longest serving leader was widely expected to win the vote.
