Inside Europe - The sweet delights of Pandolce

Italy's classic Christmas cake, Panettone, was born in Milan, but a lesser-known but equally traditional fruitcake is Pandolce. Hailing from Genoa, the name derives from 'pane dolce' – sweet bread. Its buttery dough is packed with candied fruit, pine nuts, sultanas and spices. Its history goes back centuries, as Dany Mitzman's been finding out from some of Genoa's most renowned Pandolce bakers.
