Just one day after the Ifo index showed that German business managers expect a slowdown, another survey has shown a slip in consumer confidence as well in September. The GfK market research institute, which publishes the leading barometer of German household confidence, said the credit crisis in the United States and rising food prices are primarily responsible for the decreased tendency to spend by consumers. The GFK's indicators for consumption had risen steadily throughout the summer months.
