Traumatic experiences change a victim's behavior. And researchers now know that they also affect that person's progeny. Descendants of those who've been through terrible experiences are more likely to develop depression or anxiety disorders.
For example, they stop swimming quite quickly when placed in a container of water from which there is no escape. What’s more: the effects of trauma can be transmitted to the next generation. Children of trauma victims may be more likely to suffer from disorders such as anxiety and depression.
