Renovations on the Marienbrücke (or Marie Bridge, named after King Ludwig II's mother) started on Monday (03.08.2015) and are expected to go on until the middle of November this year. The Bavarian Palace Department in Munich explains that the bridge requires extensive maintenance work. Its current structure is 37 years old.

Among other things, the anchors in the cliff need to be checked and the wooden planks of the bridge must be replaced. There are also plans to renew the access routes. According to the Palace Department, the costs of these works are estimated at 365,000 euros (almost $400,000).

When the renovations are completed in November, the number of people allowed on the bridge at once will be limited.
