Thailand’s Supreme Court found former premier Thaksin Shinawatra guilty of corruption and sentenced him to two years in prison on Tuesday. The court said Thaksin had abused his power by allowing his wife to purchase a plot of land at a government auction when still in office. His wife, Pojaman, was cleared of the charges. The couple was not present in court at the time of the verdict because they fled the country in August, claiming they would not get fair trial and saying the charges against them were politically motivated.
