Alexander Fishenko, the 50-year-old Texas man convicted of exporting advanced military technology to Russia, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Thursday.

The US-Russian dual citizen learned of his punishment at a federal court in New York.

"Alexander Fishenko illegally shipped millions of dollars of high-technology products to Russian military affiliated actors in clear violation of United States law," according to John Carlin, the assistant attorney general for national security.

Fishenko, who owned Houston-based technology company Arc Electronics Inc., was charged in 2012 along with 10 others for evading export controls in order to ship the pieces of technology from 2008 to 2012.

The company is no longer in business.
