There's long been a fierce rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran, with both nations jostling for regional dominance in the Middle East. The two countries are engaged in a proxy war in Yemen … and a growing crisis in the small nation of Lebanon.
After Lebanon's cabinet reaffirmed an official policy of remaining neutral in regional conflicts, Saad Hariri has withdrawn his resignation. He is expected to attend talks in Paris with US and French diplomats.
The Iranian president has urged Saudi Arabia to end its war in Yemen and sever alleged ties with Israel to improve relations with the Islamic republic. Iran and Saudi Arabia have witnessed relations nosedive since 2016.
