European steelmakers have been hit by a plunge in steel prices blamed largely on a surge in cheap exports from China. The sutuation is especially dire for Britain, where some 18,000 people are directly employed in the steel industry. Many of them now fear for their jobs - India's Tata Steel already plans to sell its UK business.
