Syria peace talks are underway in Vienna. 17 states, the EU and the UN are together at one table. They include Iran and its biggest opponent in the region, Saudi Arabia. Syria itself is not represented. And there, the killing continues.
A partial ceasefire brokered by the US and Russia appears to have held in southwestern Syria. Government and opposition delegations holding a seventh round of UN-sponsored talks in Geneva.
The government of the Central Africa Republic plans to hold further peace talks with rebel factions. But rights group, Human Rights Watch, wants rebel leaders to be held accountable for war crimes.
Washington's demand that UN nuclear inspectors visit Iranian sites has been dismissed as a "dream" by Tehran. Since its deal with six powers in 2015, the UN's agency has certified Iran as compliant.
The UN-brokered Syria peace talks are set to resume in Geneva on Thursday. But with a fragmented opposition, Staffan de Mistura questioned how much progress could be made in the initial talks.
