Going into the last stage of the Dakar rally, defending champion and twelve-time winner Peterhansel has a six-minute lead over his French compatriot and former Dakar champion Sebastien Loeb
Sebastien Loeb took advantage of a stoppage for Peugeot teammate Stephane Peterhansel to win Stage 8 and take the overall lead. However, a massive mudslide has forced the cancellation of the ninth stage.
On a day of storms in Bolivia, nine-time world rally champion Frenchman Sebastien Loeb clinched the stage victory. Stephane Peterhansel took the overall lead as the day's action was cut short.
Stephane Peterhansel said his latest Dakar win was the sweetest of his career as he held off the challenge of compatriot Sebastien Loeb to claim his 13th title. Peterhansel was 5min 13sec clear of Peugeot teammate Loeb.
After Saturday's sixth stage was cancelled, the Dakar Rally resumed in the Bolivian mud on Monday. Frenchman Stephane Peterhansel finished first, doubling his overall lead in the standings.
