The institution that documents the history of surveillance in the former East Germany is to be restructured. Officials say files the secret police kept on individuals will remain available to the public.
An Iranian intelligence agency spied on German politician Reinhold Robbe for months. In an interview with DW, Robbe says he is convinced that the extent of Iranian espionage in Germany is greater than previously known.
No espionage charges have been filed, but the case is thought to be linked to a CIA field operation in China. Between 2010 and 2012 at least a dozen CIA spies were killed in China and six others imprisoned.
The bill passed with a comfortable majority though representatives from both parties voted against it. President Trump sowed confusion prior to the vote, which is expected to pass the Senate before expiring next week.
Hungarian prosecutors have charged Bela Kovacs of the far-right Jobbik party of spying on EU institutions for Russia. Kovacs, who serves as a member of the European Parliament, rejected the charges as "fantasy."
