Hundreds of people have either died or gone missing amid severe flooding and mudslides in Sri Lanka. Authorities are now appealing for international help.
At least 200 people have died in mudslides and floods in Sri Lanka, the government reports. Buried highways and submerged roads are hampering efforts to get food, water and medicines to survivors.
Emergency aid has started reaching the Sri Lanka flood victims as rescue teams continue to reach out to marooned people, taking advantage of slightly improved weather. Floods and mudslides have claimed some 146 lives.
Colombo is getting in shape for the 21st century. German technology giant Siemens is supporting Sri Lanka in achieving the target, but it is a challenge to upgrade the city with an outdated infrastructure.
