The Spanish Christmas lottery is a national lottery that began in 1813. It’s considered to be the biggest lottery in the world in terms of total prize payout.
Champagne corks have been popping across Spain as thousands celebrate a win in the biggest ever national Christmas lottery. The winning numbers were sung out by Madrid schoolchildren on live television.
A select group of lucky Spaniards, many of whom hail from outside Madrid, have won the world's largest lottery. The sweepstake has dished out prizes worth 2.5 billion euros ($3.3 billion) in total.
