Donald Trump has hit back at unverified claims that Russia has compromising information about him. Trump said it was possible that intelligence agencies purposely leaked the claims. If so, he said, it would be a tremendous blot on their record.
US President Trump has said he backs the conclusion of intelligence agencies that Russia meddled in the 2016 election. Trump tried to distance himself from remarks suggesting he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The presidents of Russia and the US spoke about the situation in Syria and a coordination of anti-terror efforts in a call that lasted for over an hour. Also on the agenda were the conflict in Ukraine and North Korea.
In a joint statement on Syria, the US president and his Russian counterpart have agreed to fight "IS" extremists together. At a regional summit, the leaders also denied claims of Moscow interference in the US election.
Lawyers for disgraced ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn have said that they will no longer communicate with the White House. The move signals that Flynn may be cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller.
