# Germany has won its bid for a two-year seat on the UN Security Council Tuesday, capping days of intense lobbying by Berlin... the victory is being seen as a key step towards a permanent seat on the 15-nation council. German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, who is in New York, told reporters he was pleased with the outcome, and said it was a sign of confidence in Germany.
