German engineering giant Siemens said Tuesday it has won a 400-million-euro ($476 million) contract to build a power plant in India. The so-called combined cycle power plant, with capacity of 1,100 megawatts, would be built in Akhakhol, some 800 kilometers north of Bombay, Siemens said in a statement. Part of the plant was scheduled to come into service in 2007. The contract was awarded by Torrent Power Generation Ltd, a subsidiary of the Torrent group, Siemens said.
