Several hundred Siemens employees in the German state of Baden-Württemberg may be out of a job soon. A company spokesperson announced on Friday that up to 500 positions at the ICN factory in Bruchsal, a division of Siemens where DSL modems are produced, may be relocated to China. According to the spokesperson, the move may be necessary to help offset the loss in profits caused by sinking prices. After a long crisis, the ICN division returned to profitability in 2000, but not before a total of 20,000 positions were eliminated in three years. Thomas Ganswindt, the head of ICN, informed the employees of the situation on Thursday.
