Leipzig's campaign to host the 2016 Olympic Games is a national matter which he fully supports, Chancellor Gerhard Schröder said in a meeting with International Olympic Committee Vice President Thomas Bach, government spokesman Bela Anda announced Tuesday. Schröder and Bach expect the problems that have arisen in conjunction with the bid to be resolved quickly so the campaign may continue, Anda said. Leipzig's chances of success have been called into question over a series of scandals involving top managers in the bid, ranging from allegations of misappropriation of funds to alleged contacts to the Stasi, the former East German secret service. Several managers have already resigned or been removed from their positions.
