German Interior Minister Otto Schily said on Wednesday that his country's hosting of the Soccer World Cup 2006 would bring financial profits to the country. "According to minister Eichel's (finance minister) estimate, the World Cup will amount to a clear plus in the account books and not just boost Germany's image," Schily said. He did not name any concrete figures. Presenting the third progress report on World Cup preparations to the cabinet, Schily stressed that Germany was on track to complete security and transport arrangements for the mega event. "It remains our commitment to offer the world the best standard, "Schily said and added that the country would be a "fantastic host."
